Helton to yanks?

"Did anyone watch Regis and Kelly this morning? Regis made a comment about the Yankees wanting a guy like Todd Helton and finally getting him. I've searched the net and have not found any announcement of this. Maybe Regis has insider information?"  I stole this from another blog  just wondering if anyone has heard anything?

Yikes
That contract is a monster.  Stay away Cashman.

Speaking of first basemen, Ken Rosenthal is an ass:

Another "scoop" from the Lohud moron
For a journalist, you think he could check his info once in a while. Tex is not a free agent after this season. Just stick to telling us direct facts you observe and leave the analysis to someone who isn't a fucking idiot. Thanks Pete.

He didn't say that
He said he's a FA in 2009 (once 2008 is over), he's arbitration-eligible in 2008.  I don't know if those are true or not.

I swear he must have corrected that
I re-read that three times before I posted, but maybe it has just been a long day.

He did correct it.
I saw it the other way too.

There are still several comments posted on the entry that call him a moron in a nice way.

You're right
He did correct it, the second comment to the post quotes the original (I thought the language seemed odd- why not just say, "he'll be a FA after next year," or, "after 2008.")  So not only was he wrong, he's being a bad journalist by not pointing out his correction.

Helton....
This year's Helton is no better than a glorified Scott Hatteberg.

With that bad contract, if we were to dump our farm system, we might as well go and get Mark Teixeira.

The worst
in my humble opinion. O'Dowd has quite the resume though with Helton, Hampton and Neagle on the books.

Apparently
Helton's close friends say that he has said there is no way he will play for the Yankees ever. The quotes from the guy writing this story arent exactly portraying Helton dying to play for the yankees. And yes, the contract is terrible and makes no sense even if the rockies pay for a lot of it.

No way he'll play for the Yankees
Whenever I hear someone say that, I think of Johnny Damon.

that's true
but no matter what damon felt, he HAD to say he would never play for the yankees. Helton has no reason to say that unless he really doesn't want to. Also, Damon felt disrespected by the Sox. Good point though, never say never.

Better chance ...
of seeing Jim Spencer return to the Yankees. Helton is fading, and his contract is HUGE. I think most of this is because the Yankees are in town, and Colorado may be close to "sell" mode.

I would be interested in Hawpe, Holliday, and even Francis, though.

I got a foul ball off of Jim Spencer in '72
lol...And Reggie Jackson in 73....
Would you take Helton if Colorado paid 40% of the contract? I liek Mark, but at what price...Teh Fox dude is a fraking hack...I'll post about it later...

I thought of that
but to get them to pay some of the contract we'd have to give more/better players.  I don't want to part with a Chamberlain or a Kennedy for a 1B.  There are too many guys in the league with a decent stick who can play first to make that the big acquisition.  Now if you want to talk about Grady Sizemore...

Speaking
OF Reggie.  I got a bat signed by him and all three of the pitchers that he hit homeruns off of during the 77 world series.

I won the bat at an Auction
I go to this celebrity dinner roast for the Connecticut Sports Foundation Against Cancer.  And the guy who runs it used to play for the Yankees.  His name is John Ellis, the first year I went they roasted Mel Stottlemyer and last year they roasted David Cone.  They have a huge silent Auction before the dinner and the bat was up for auction.  It had all of the signatures already on it.  I also won a Mickey Mantle ball that year.

This year I got to meet Boomer, David Cone, Yogi Berra, Don Larson, Ron Darling, Jim Leyland, and Zim.
