Game #32 -- Texas Rangers at New York Yankees

Texas Rangers

Kenny Lofton,  CF
Michael Young,  SS
Mark Teixiera,  1B
Sammy Sosa,  DH
Hank Blalock,  3B
Ian Kinsler,  2B
Brad Wilkerson,  LF
Nelson Cruz,  RF
Chris Stewart,  C

Robinson Tejada,  RHP  (3-2,  3.89)

New York Yankees

Johnny Damon,  DH
Bobby Abreu,  RF
Derek Jeter,  SS
Alex Rodriguez,  3B
Hideki Matsui,  LF
Robinson Cano,  2B
Melky Cabrera,  CF
Doug Mientkiewicz,  1B
Wil Nieves,  C

Mike Mussina,  RHP  (1-1,  5.73)

Jason Giambi is out of the lineup due to the bone spur in his foot and Jorge Posada is shooting for his second full-day off in a week.  Slacker.

Torre has done some more reshuffling of the lineup with Abreu hitting second and Jeter hitting third.

Finally, I decided to try something new and jazz up the in-game threads a little bit by adding current team logos and mixing in some of the old throwback logos or jerseys from time to time.

Is this a nice touch or a complete waste of time and space?  You tell me.

Well

It looks nice
the throwback logos/uniforms will be a nice touch too.  If you want to get out of control, you could throw up all the old logos for, eg, Nationals/Expos/etc... when the oft-sold teams come around ;-)

'Course then the Yanks would need logos for the Highlanders and the Orioles too... OK, that could just get confusing.

It looks great
Anaconda....It's not easy putting together good looking posts...Our bottom 4 is weak...Tomorrow they have the day game, why not play Jorge today?

I've been thinking-a dangerous pastime
I owe Torre and Giambi appologies.  I thought Jason's poor baserunning was a mental mistake.  I thought Torre's running for Giambi so much was dumb.

There is a good reason not to tell the opponents when someone is playing but subpar.  I now think Jason has been nursing a sore heel for weeks.

Bone spurs are no fun! Ask Dimaggio.

I'm not finding
team stats for RISP.
The reason I jumped at that post is because with less than 2 outs, you don't need a hit to score the run.  I'm more concerned with total runs scored.  All runs are equal.

This is why

by jscape2000 on May 9, 2007 9:27 PM EDT reply actions

Do we all agree that Bruney is....
the most reliable arm in that pen right now?

If so, why has Torre had such a quick hook with him lately?

by anaconda on May 9, 2007 9:28 PM EDT reply actions

No
I think Bruney is more reliable than Joe thinks he is.  But I would use Mo, Proctor, maybe even Farnsworth before Bruney.

Scott Proctor
So was the appeal of his suspension to ask for more games to be added? 19 appearances in 32 games is criminal and makes Torre's treatment of Gordon et al. seem reasonable
Fear the Evil Empire

by pfistyunc on May 9, 2007 9:38 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah
It's not the appearances, it's the innings pitched that matter more I think.

Before tonight he had 18 appearances but only 17 IP.  Last year it seemed like Torre used him for multiple innings a lot more often (I think he was over 100 innings by the end of the year).  This year he's a couple of outs and done.  Like tonight - 4 pitches, 1 out, next pitcher please.

by matthaggs on May 9, 2007 10:01 PM EDT up reply actions

I think they'll reduce his suspension
to like 2 games...How does Senor Hustle look tonight? hehe

by John Amato on May 9, 2007 9:41 PM EDT reply actions

By the way....
those Padres uniform pants are putrid.  They just showed a highlight from their game tonight.

The Pads have a history of fugly uniforms with the old brown and mustard yellow jersey's in the 70s and 80s at the top of the list.

... Don't look now... Yankees are 7-2 in May.

by nyg2008 on May 9, 2007 11:31 PM EDT reply actions

We just need Texas
to apply and receive a mid-season transfer to the AL East.

by matthaggs on May 9, 2007 11:36 PM EDT up reply actions

I'd hope the Yankees
... would be able to manhandle marshmallows like the Texans.  Sox are also 6-2 in May (against .500-ish teams).

Why does it seem like the entire AL is under .500 this year?  Oh right, Sox Indians and Tigers.

Anyway, we it looks like Sox and Yanks both get to cruise until the 14th/15th when we both start playing winners again.  Oh and congrats on your boys' monumental effort to get back up to .500 ;-)
