BullPen Frustration of Usage

This is my first post on this board in a long time.  I have been a fan for decades now.  One thing I have grown to detest is the usage and matchups of the Bullpen.  The bullpen this year has blown 8 games or so.  I understand we had 3/4 of our staff on the dl.  But this extends beyond this year and over the entire Torre tenior.  We had great bullpens in the 90s so even though I didn't like the usage it worked well. But we do not have the horses in that area anymore.  I am sick and tired of pitch counts and Torres matchups.  If the starters have thrown 5 hit 1 run ball after 7...LEAVE HIM IN THE F@#$%^ GAME regardless of pitch count.  Ask the pitcher how he feels.  U don't know what the guy in the pen has(especially these clowns) but u sure know what the guy has that has been on the mound.  Its a stupid methodology and it will cost Torre his job after this year.  This method has cost the yanks at least 6 games with his bullpen use.  He looks clueless in his overmanaging style with that whatever lousy explanations after the game. I am also tired that the team never retaliates or backs hitters off the plate.  Especially Ortiz.  But that for another day.

I respect Joe but If he goes I want Girardi and Not Mattingly for the managers job.  Giradi has that passion for the game.  Mattinly looks like a younger Torre. I think New York needs a new approach.

I think
pitch counts are somewhat important.  It's a long season and if it's the sixth inning and Wang is at 100 pitches, I'd like him out fairy soon.  Retaliation?  Proctor got 4 games for it.

Giradi over Donnie Baseball?  Hmm...Don't know about that one either.

Best move Proctor's ever made
Those 4 days are the only 4 days he won't be pitching all season.

Well not quite. Had Henn not been able
to close out the game, the situation would have been a little more dire.

Which lesser reliever?
Myers pitched 4 innings the other night,  the only "lesser" reliever available was in the game.

Unless you count Vizcaino, but if you bring him in Mo would have to start warming up. Torre is finally sick of him thankfully.

Sorry but if Henn gives up a HR
that's 8-4 and I defintely would not want to see Vizcaino running in at that situation. What? You want to see Mo come in with the bases loaded?

I actually think
Garp is the better option out of the pen than Vizcaino

I think
zulekasta should have pitched the 9th with ny1988 as a backup option

Well I can guaranty that no one would
hit a homerun off of me. No promises that I won't walk everyone on four pitches though. Come to think of it, think Colter Bean.

Called ball 12
And garp's loaded the bases on 12 straight pitches. Up comes Clue Haywood, last year's Triple Crown winner.

Vizcaino should have pitched last night
instead of Proctor. The "prize" of the Unit deal is a mop-up reliever, but we should at least use him in those mop-up roles.

Don't mind Proctor pitching
He'll have a four-day vacation soon enough.

Agreed
Henn would have gotten work tonight, anyway, because Mussina isn't going more than six.

That I agree with
but once a guy on base off Henn with no outs I wouldn't have gone to Viz.  That's an easy way to make a blowout sweaty.

Start with Viz, use Henn as backup.  Makes perfect sense. Too bad the manager didn't think of it.

Speaking of Vizcaino
Unit fanned the first six Phillies he faced tonight.

I soooo wish the Yanks had
an old six inning pitcher with a 6.00 ERA.

Not saying they shouldn't have traded him
It just would have been nice to get more than some pine tar and a bat donut in return. Considering the shit package Cashman got, it was would have been smarter to keep him.

While it would have been nice
to get more, the no-trade clause certainly limited the options and I can't believe you'd want that old, overpaid, underperforming, excuse-making, cranky bitch in the clubhouse.

It's funny
how happy Joe seems to be that Unit is gone.  He mentioned it when he named the opening day starter, and again when they gave Clemens his travel clause.

It has got to be nice that for the first
time in many years there is no Kevin Brown or Randy Johnson around to bring everybody down.

I missed that, what
did Torre say about Unit?
Great Success!

by ReLaunch on May 10, 2007 4:20 AM EDT up reply actions

When Torre
named the opening day starter, he mentioned that there weren't any prima donnas on the team who felt they had to start opening day.  When asked about the Clemens travel clause he said even more explicitly, with RJ gone there was no one in the clubhouse who would make a fuss about it.
