Game #26 -- New York Yankees at Texas Rangers (Game 2 of DH)

New York Yankees

Melky Cabrera,  CF
Derek Jeter,  SS
Bobby Abreu,  RF
Alex Rodriguez,  3B
Jason Giambi,  DH
Hideki Matsui,  LF
Robinson Cano,  2B
Doug Mientkiewicz,  1B
Wil Nieves,  C

Mike Mussina,  RHP

Texas Rangers

Kenny Lofton,  CF
Michael Young,  SS
Mark Teixiera,  1B
Sammy Sosa,  DH
Hank Blalock,  3B
Ian Kinsler,  2B
Brad Wilkerson,  RF
Matt Kata,  LF
Chris Stewart,  C

Robinson Tejada,  RHP

Gotta tip your cap to Andy Pettitte for battling out there and still managing to give up just 2 runs in 6 innings.  He clearly wasn't himself, but he got the job done nonetheless.  It's a damn shame that he couldn't get the win.

Nice to see Farnsworth throwing hard again.  In fact, that may have been the first time he's hit 99 MPH on the gun since the team left Spring Training.

Game 2 marks the return of Mike Mussina.  Welcome back, Moose.  He probably won't throw more than 85 pitches, so the [gulp] bullpen will have to be armed and ready for action.

Lineup
Giambi should have played first in this game.

Minky and Nieves should never appear in the same lineup.  Ugh.

I know it is really early, but is Dayton Moore actually looking smart for signing Meche? With KC's finances, they have no margin for error, but Meche has been great so far. Maybe he just needed a change of scenery to harness his stuff?

By the way....
Lofton now owes Lou Brown 80 push-ups -- 4 flyouts.

Farns can't pitch two
days in a row but twice in one day is acceptable?
Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and f*** the prom queen.

Actually....
Farnsworth and Mo should be okay to pitch in this game because neither of those guys have pitched much.

uuuhhh
ok?

I didn't want to trade Farnsworth for
Lieber anyway.  At the moment I'd just go with the young guns.

Yeah...but Wright and Rasner have already
proved that they can't pitch quality starts on a consistent basis.

My guess is that they won't get much better from DeSalvo either.

Not so sure about that....
After this terrible April, they need all the wins they can get.

Young "guns"
seems to imply that these guys are some hot prospects. De Salvo was DFA'ed last year for a reason and his control is terrible. He is just going to be the "Rasner du jour." Clippard is at least a fringe prospect.

Agreed....
the young guns are currently on the DL -- perhaps for the exception of Clippard.

by anaconda on May 3, 2007 11:43 PM EDT up reply actions

I like Ohlandorf too
But I'll watch De Salvo with fingers crossed.  He let Lieber go years ago for a reason.

Rest assured
That the reason Lieber was not retained was NOT Matt De Salvo. Even Cashman isn't that retarded. (Barely).

Yeah....
but at least he's using him.

He wouldn't even bring him into the game for a week or so.

Perhaps that is his way of auditioning for Cashman?

If we hadn't won
that first inning would have haunted us.  Now it will be forgotten.

I like agressive baserunning.  You will get thrown out once in a while though.
