YANKS FOILED AGAIN BY METS

Once again the Mets are a thorn on our side but really who is running this team. The Yanks obviouly are stuck in a slump, but what about our running game. Whenever Jeter, Cano, Abreu or ARod get on base they must become a threat. This is how Billy Martin used to manage aggresively. This can spark a rally and bring runs and wake up the offense. Those of us who remember Mickey Rivers know that a running game is part of the offense can someone PLEASE tell Torre that! When Phelps hit into a double play Cano on first should have stolen 2nd base and eliminate that possibility. It doesn't take a genius to figure this out. We need a new manager who is as aggressive as Billy was. Maybe Larry Bowa. Lets play Billy Ball again!

I'll go along with geting
Zombie Billy Martin to be the manager. Instead of kicking dirt, he'd just eat the umpire's brains. That would so rock.

Torre is a zombie
Have you taken a look at him lately. The man is barely alive. I am talking real baseball, and about how to wake up a slumping team. We need a manager that manages, period.

Running is also a way to kill a rally
There are two sides to that coin.

Yea but what if you never run you ll never know
people are you baseball fans dont you know that the Yanks have no running game at all. Face it We need all the aggressiveness we can muster. PRONTO

They don't need a runing game
They're a team built to hit. They're not built to steal a lot of bases.

Plus, the guys who can steal haven't been on base much lately (Melky, Alex, Abreu, Damon) or haven't been stealing well (Jeter, 5 caught stealings to 3 steals).

Lets get speed
Carl Crawford of the Devil Rays has been a thorn on our back. Lets him in pinstripes! And I disagree sir A Rod Jeter Damon and Abreu can steal just need the sign and the coaching. Lets get those bases take the game to the opposition make them sweat instead.

Okay, I just
read your new thread and now this answer to powerhouse's comment.  Lets get Crawford in pinstripes?  Okay, while you are at it, why don't you throw in Santan, Ortiz, Vlad, KRod, and Reyes.

I'm sure Billy Ball taught you that you can't get every player you want, you have to make your own players work.

Great Success!

Speed
That would bankrupt us would it not.  The Boss might not be happy.

Again,
until you can prove how the Yanks can actually get Crawford, please stop posting your complete and utter nonsense on this site.

Billy ball?
I'm not a fan of Torre anymore, but how many championships did Martin win with the Yanks?  Cano shouldn't have been on first when Phelps hit the ball?  Apparanetly you don't watch the Yanks since you will know that Cano is not a speed demon.

I agree the team needs a shake up, something to wake them up.  Maybe it is stealing bases.  Lot of times though, stealing kills rallies.

Great Success!

This team
Doesn't have a ton of speed.  They're not built to play the way Billy Martin wanted to play.  Most the teams Billy managed weren't really built to play that way.  If guys don't get on base they can't steal bases or get driven in.  Let's work on the hits and the walks.

Dimaggio died years ago..
Our game has changed if you have not noticed since No.5 played in pinstripes. The homerun is not the only weapon to depend on. WE HAVE TO ADJUST TO THE TIMES.

by StrappedYankee on May 19, 2007 11:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Hmmm
In case you haven't noticed, team stolen bases have declined in the past few decades. What times are we adjusting to?

Stolen bases
In case you have not noticed the success of the Mets is the stolen base and run and hit game. Did you notice the double steal in game 2. Reyes stole 2 and some one else 1 thats how runs are produced. Homeruns are great but sometimes the running game can and does produce runs. Men in scoring position have a 50 per cent better chance of scoring than staying in first. Thats a fact. As Casey Stengel used to say you can look it up.

by StrappedYankee on May 21, 2007 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions

And
DiMaggio was a great baserunner.  McCarthy once said that JoeD could have stolen 50 bases a year if he'd let him.
As for "adjusting" you're a moron.  I try not to call names too often, but really, I mean really, you're dumb if you think taking an extra base will put this team back in first place.
Let's play a game today.  Imagine that every time Jeter, Arod, Abreu or Damon hits a single they attempt a steal.  Let's give them them a 75% success rate.  And just like we do calculating unearned runs, we can figure out how many times they could have squeezed out an extra run and how many times they'd run themselves out of the inning.

We have a team ERA of 4.65. We've been
outpitched by the Kansas City Royals, Washington Nationals, and Pittsburgh Pirates to name a few. We've walked the 3rd highest number of batters in the AL. We have the lowest K/BB out of every single team in MLB.

Obviously, this means we aren't stealing enough bases!

A BIG THANK YOU!
Dear Moose thank you. I have been getting beat up here for bringing a fresh perspective to The Yankees woes. I presume you are a Mussina fan. Hope tomorrow he is his old reliable self.
Thanks again for your input on stolen bases!

No problem man
The stolen base has definitely become a lost art. Stealing bases is all about grit, hustle, and determination. The grittier a player, the better he is at stealing; that's why guys like Cano (who isn't too fast but has a lot of grit) should be stealing a lot more often. Heck, I say let Posada have at it every now and again. This is a new era of small ball, veteran grit, and above all, stolen bases; only stealing can unwaveringly lead us to the zenith of baseball perfection.

And yep, I'm a Mussina fan, here's hoping he has his good ol' knuckle curve going for him Tuesday.

Hope so too.
We need to make a statement tonight.

by StrappedYankee on May 21, 2007 7:58 AM EDT up reply actions

I hope you understand
he was beeing sarcastic.  You give examples of Reyes and Crawford consitently.  Who the hell do the Yanks have that can run at will like those 2.  Thats like saying, we need more homeruns dammit, Melky should be swinging for the fences every at bat.  Your asking people to do what they can't do.
Great Success!

Why can't they are they crippled?
They can run.  St. Joe just has to trun them loose.

by StrappedYankee on May 21, 2007 7:56 AM EDT up reply actions

Did you watch Cano get caught last night?
The Yanks don't have the speed to run that kind of game. What the fuck don't you get about that?

Actually
I would rather have Cano steal every time than have more hit-and-runs.  Cano doesn't get on base that often anyways, so making another out or two a game wouldn't be as bad as making the out and forcing the batter to swing at bad pitches.
