Grapefruit League: Game 1!

Watching the beginning of the game, and I can't help but feel bad for the Twins. With the exception of Abreu, who is obviously not available, the A team is taking the field.

Alex looks great. He has lost alot of weight during the offseason, down to 9% body fat according to the announcers. Being in better shape can't do anything but help him get a good jump on the season.

They didn't mention it, but does it seem like Wang put on a good chunk of weight in the offseason? He is looking a bit thicker around the midsection than I remember.

Damon started off spring training the right way, homering on his first at bat.

I am just glad I can turn on the TV and watch baseball again

Wang pitched 2 innings
less than 20 pitches, 5 ground balls, 1 fly out. I am preparing myself for him to regress, but I really love his stuff.

The most democratic pitcher in the major leagues. :-P

Giambi hit a homer
on his second time coming up which is encouraging, I am hoping that means that his wrist is feeling great.

More importantly Giambi said that he really wanted to get back to being the old Giambi and hit like he used to. It might have been the thing that made me happiest all day. The first time I see Giambi go the other way I will throw a party.

You know I was really hoping
that if I built it, people would come and comment, but such is life.

Phil Hughes pitched 1.1 innings. His limit was 33 and he pitched it. He showed flashes of what we have been hearing about, but he did walk to 2 batters. I have to tell you though he wasn't missing by much. I really think Posada was testing him, holding his glove right on the corners. He would barely move his glove, but his position was so extreme that it was a ball.

He approached every batter the same, which isn't always a good thing. He was pitching to the reigning MVP with the same care that he pitched to the number 9 batter. He walked the number 9 batter because he was too careful. On the other hand he struck out the MVP.

If there is a time to treat every batter with care it definately is spring training, practicing for later in the year.

didn't get to watch
but just looking at the starting lineup made me happy. Was the game on YES?

It's funny that you mention the weight of two players, spring training is the only time of year you can hear a few men discussing in detail whether or not another man gained a few pounds around the middle.

Can't wait to hear the sound of the first Yankee hit in a real game.

The Yes Network
didn't show it in California.. I have DirectTV. Is MLB showing pre-season games this year?

Would have watched
but I was distracted by a girl and some of the best pizza I've had in a while.
When is the next ST game being televised?

I know it's not the Yanks...
but I'll be in Ft Lauderdale on Tuesday and plan on stopping by to see the O's and the Cards.

Trying to figure out how to justify a business trip to Tampa next week to see the Bombers.

One of the perks to living in Florida, and having clients across the southern and middle part of the state is to see lots of Spring Training.

Maybe the Dodgers next week in Vero, or the Mets in Port St Lucie.

Wang says
That he worked out a bit more this year in anticipation to ST than he did last year, particularly focused on improving leg / lower body strength to improve stamina. hope that works out.
