GREAT Quote on Rivera - by Teixeira

Article in the Star-Telegram:

"I know what he's going to throw, and I know where he's going to throw it," Teixeira said of Rivera, against whom he is 1 for 9 lifetime.

"And every time I swing I either hit it 80 feet foul or break my bat."

As we all know, Rivera is God.

Update [2007-2-8 15:29:52 by John Amato]:I updated the post and moved it to the front page. And I agree 100% with Teixeira. Is there anything more that really needs to be said about Mariano?

Sweet
Hopefully Mark will be a teammate of Rivera and won't have to worry about facing him.

Yup,
FA after this year and the guy idolized Mattingly growing up.  Has a recipe for success here.
Great Success!

FA after 2008
He's got one more arbitration year left.

Texas will never let that happen
Teixiera isn't going anywhere. Their offense is steadily dwindling and their farm system is fallow. They can't afford to let either Tex or Michael Young leave until they grow some replacements. Expect to see both guys signed to extensions by the end of the year.

Um, they hate their manager
and I assume that they hate losing too. They will follow the money like everyone else.

They hate their manager?
Ron Washington just got there! How could they hate him so soon?

Oops
I forgot they got rid of Showalter.

As to the money,
if they get signed to extensions before they hit the market, then they will be following the money.

Aramis Ramirez.....
was offered an extension by the Cubs before the season ended and he still chose to test the free agent waters because the market was so thin.

Any decent agent would advise Teixeira and Young to do the very same thing.

They would earn a lot more on the open market than they would if they just sign an extension with Texas.

by anaconda on Feb 8, 2007 5:26 PM EST up reply actions

It's possible....
...but unlikely.

The free agent market is going to be thin next season too.

I don't know which agent represents either of those guys, but you can bet that they are going to test the free agent waters to see just how much teams are willing to offer them.

Yea
sounds good, i would love to get mark on our team.
But didn't people say we would defidently sign zito as a free agent around the biggining of 2006? this is a different situation though.

Hence the use of the word
"hopefully." That is not the same as the word "defidently," (sic) which is by the way a truly scrumtrellescent term.

Now batting for the Yankees, Tiexiera
He's been on my radar since coming up. His hitting exploits are well-noted, however, he's very adept with the glove. I saw him in Baltimore last season and he's sweet around the bag. I know he idolized Mattingly, but he's from Baltimore, and grew up an Orioles fan.

Until Angelos dies
I don't see any significant free agent going to B-more. That town is a shithole and the front office is the worst in baseball.

Roger that.
I did hear him on an interview saying that it would be a dream to play in his hometown. But my guess is to have an opportunity to link his name with Gehrig, and Mattingly ... plus $120 mil would likely get him to forget about the O's.
