A few MLB notes

Here's a few non-Yankee related transactions:

  • Aaron Rowand appears headed to the Giants after agreeing to a 5-year/$60M deal.  Gotta wonder if this will put an end to the Matsui trade talks.
  • Long-time disgruntled Oriole, Miguel Tejada, is now headed to Houston after his former team traded him for five marginal prospects.
  • Pending a physical, the Cubs have agreed to a 4-year/$48M deal with Japanese outfielder Kosuke Fukudome.  Before he has even put on a big league uniform, Fukudome already owns the best nickname in MLB.

Brian Sabean
How in the hell does he still have a job? For all the crap that Bavasi and Kenny Williams get, I have no idea how this guy continues to fly under the radar.

Sabean doesn't want to admit
that without Bonds, his team has no chance at being competitive. The Giants sorely need to rebuild.

and played him a 1B!!!!

Matsui
I think for SF to contend even in NL west, they need more than Rowand. SF still needs Matsui's bat. However, I would not trade Matsui for Jonathan Sanchez or Noel Lowry. I hope we can get Matt Cain if we include Matsui + J. Marquez + a prospect. I know Matsui is 33 years old and had a knee problem last year, but the injury has healed and he can still drive in 100 + which SF dearly needs.

i agree matsui's not done
but remember, he drives in 100 runs the yankees lineup. that's a lot different than him doing it SF. I'm all for getting Cain, but I don't think it's gonna happen. if they can get any value for him, we should get the deal done... he is still recovering from knee surgery for god's sake-- only sabean would pull the trigger on this deal.

Reports
I have read said the Yanks turned down Lowry and that we tried to get either Lincecum or Cain and were turned down.  Sanchez will most likely be the centerpiece of the deal.  Sanchez was the 59th best prospect in baseball according to Baseball America going into 2007.

For those interested
Keith Law absolutely crushed Houston for making this deal.

Yanks are not going to get Cain or Lincecum...
From ESPN.com:

"With this move, we will no longer listen to any offers for Cain and Lincecum," Sabean said. "We know the value of both individuals believe me, maybe more so now that we've gone through this exercise. They might be the hottest two names in baseball."

He might not have made some of the best moves during his tenure with the Giants, but he's not a total f-ing moron, either.  If either of those two go, he's going to be looking for a Cano type of young-potential filled player, not Matsui, who has produced in the past, but is aging fast and coming off a knee in injury.  Don't get me wrong here, I love Hideki, one of my favorite Yankees, but his upside might be great now, as is Lincecum's, but in the long run, Tim FAR outweighs Hideki.  Might still want to consider Lowry, Hennessey, and/or Sanchez/Correia, Correia being the one name that hasn't gotten much press.

Jesus H Christ
Not another mention of Noah "Softball" Lowry.  Trading Matsui for a mediocre NL West pitcher - which translates into bottom-feeding hack in the AL East - is not the answer.  If we missed out on Cain or Lincecum, tough titty for us.  Let's end this trade with the Giants speculation, shall we?

Question...
Do you think that the Giants are now done with the Yankees, now that San Francisco has signed Rowand?  Because, I'm not so sure they are.  If I'm the Giants, I still want to get Matsui to play left, especially if all I have to give up is Jonathan Sanchez.  If that's all we're going to ask for, why not just take Lowry!!!  Even Giants fans think he's much better than Sanchez...JEEZ.

I'd want more
than either or both of those guys for Matsui.

It's true though, compared to Barry Bonds, Matsui's a gold-glover with a cannon for an arm.

Very true
although I think this Rowand deals makes the Angels look all the more foolish. I would much rather spend 60M on Rowand over the next five years than 90M on Torii Hunter.

I agree
Hunter will end up with better numbers because only Bonds can hit in SF.  But, $30 over 5 years is lot of cash.  However, I am still glad neither are Yankees!
