Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

What about Neal Cotts?

First off, let me state that I am fully aware that I'll be crucified mercilessly for offering the following suggestion.  However, it's been slow here at PA the past couple days - nothing like a good old fashioned pissing match to make things lively again.

That said, I found on MLBTR that Neal Cotts is eligible for arbitration.  With the non-tender deadline looming, Cotts may become an FA if the Cubs don't offer him a contract, which is possible considering they sent him to AAA last year.

Now, I know Cotts has basically sucked the past couple years, but he was phenomenal in 2005.  He's young, has proven that he can pitch in big games and would be a cheap lefty option out of the pen. Barring an injury or psychological problem that has contributed to him sucking in '06 and '07, I think he'd be a good, very low-risk pickup, if he becomes available.

I eagerly await the onslaught.

Neal down and let me kick you in the Cotts
Neal Cotts had one great (and it was great) season. Since then he has slipped past mediocrity on the fastlane to Suckville. I've read reports that he's had arm woes, shoulder woes and head woes--essentially the triple crown of pitcher issues. No. I can't endorse a guy whose innings pitched are going down while his era is going up. I'm sure Andy Roth--that bastion of baseball knowledge and insight would beg to differ, though.

I wasn't sure why
he fell off from a great year so fast.  Sounds like he's not worth it, then.

Maybe A. Froth will propose a trade of Hughes/Melky/Horne for Cotts.

He's worth
a Spring Training invite, maybe not a major league deal unless it was for very, very little and only 1 year.

Couldn't be a major league deal
we've got to cut some pitchers from the 40-man as it is. But I agree, bring him to camp and let him pitch in Scranton or Trenton if he wants to.
