The B'way Strike is About The Red Sox

The Broadway stage hands strike went into day 3 without any budging from either side.

Among the "human interest" stories that the local news has run in the past few days were the couple from Scotland who bought tickets to TEN Broadway shows this week, hoping to see everything they could get tickets for.  While they have tickets to one or two that are still playing, most of the trip, that took much planning and saving, is a bust.

Another story is how children have come from far and near to see the Grinch Who Stole Christmas to find that the grinch really did steal Christmas.  Almost every NYC news station has had some footage of children crying as well as bad puns about the grinch producers.

Although the stagehands have the support of most people in theater, except for the highest paid actors, most people working in the theater are feeling a tremendous financial pinch.

NYC is losing millions of dollars a day.

The Broadway stagehand strike is having a tremendous impact on the NY holiday season, it is a financial nightmare and is breaking hearts everywhere.

But, have no fear that this story has NOTHING to do with baseball.  You didn't think this had ANYTHING to do with baseball did you?

WRONG.

The NY Daily News interviewed a couple from Massachusetts who had to return to MA on Sunday without seeing whatever it was they came to see over the weekend.  As they boarded their Amtrak train they reported that they were very angry and were sure it was revenge for the Red Sox winning the World Series.

Excuse me:  WHAT?????????????????

Do those people in Boston have nothing else to freaking talk about????

NEWSFREAKINGFLASH:  THE BROADWAY STAGEHAND STRIKE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RED SOX.

Get a life Massholes!

I'm sorry but this just made me CRAZY.

For the sake of humanity
I hope that couple was only joking.

The Scottish couple?
No they were serious.  They are HUGE theater buffs and planned to go to ten shows in a week.

Yeah, it's a bit much but the poor guy looked devastated on TV.

He was talking about the Massholes
I feel bad for the Scots.  I'd be pissed too if I were them.  And 10 shows in a week would be awesome.

No the Massholes
were in the paper along with a picture of them getting on the train.

Yes, it's all about the RS.

There is obviously nothing else to do or talk about in Boston. When  you want to DO something, you come to NY and when there is nothing to do there, you talk about the Sux.

NY has been consumed with the Broadway strike because it's a very big deal but to my knowledge, they're the only ones who somehow linked it to baseball.  Even in NY where we have two baseball teams, the thought never occurred to us that it was somehow connected.

don't you know
that everything revolves around the sox!? It must have been Hank and Hal who made sure that the stagehand strike happened when the two redsox fans were in town.

Speaking of the strike
How is the news coverage on local NY news?  Out here in LA, the coverage on the WGA strike has been practically non-existent.

There's a lot of coverage
that says nothing except how much it's costing and how it's about to ruin the holiday season.  Once the first weekend passed we couldn't get any more good pix of kids crying in front of The Grinch show.

I pass two or three theaters on my way home each night and tonight some lady was yelling at the striking stage hands for ruining people's vacations. I expect scenes like that to wind on the news.

word is they are
going to bring in spitzer or another high level govt official to sit down and mediate. i am an actor and work for a non-profit in the city that subsides in part on selling tickets to bway shows, so i've have insider folks on both sides. i don't think anything wil be resolved this week, but next week is the busiest NYC theatre week of year, put that together with the raised ticket prices for the holidays-- the producers stand to lose upwards of $100 million (roughly one-third of an A-rod) just next week. I would hope that for everyone involved cooler heads will prevail by monday and things get settled.

i wrote a blog on this a few days ago-- if anyone cares to read it, go  here.

I would really prefer
not to have a whiny loud mouth snake in the grass hack from a fourth tier law school for an agent.

But thanks anyway.  :)
