Torre headed to the Dodgers, 3-years/$15M

I have not seen the specifics reported anywhere else, but Pete Abraham confirms the deal is done:

The Dodgers and Joe Torre have agreed on a three-year deal worth close to $15 million. Torre could be introduced in Los Angeles as soon as Thursday.

This process was started several day ago. A preliminary agreement was reached on Monday, which led to Grady Little being forced to resign.

Shady
Torre kinda broke the manager code here by talking to LA while Grady was still the manager.

Less than 5 mil ?
Sounds kind of insulting to me....

i think
thats the point. Torre was insulted by the way he was offered a contract by the yankees, so now hes pretty much accepting a contract for less money but isnt one year.

It wasn't the money
Joe wanted a longer contract; he said as much in the Costas interview on Real Sports.

Good luck Joe, hope to see you in the WS
And I think this shows that he left because he felt the Yanks didn't want him.  He left because he feels in todays baseball it's ahrd to manage when the manager's contract status is a distraction.  One year contracts are not god for anyone.

The Yanks wanted Joe to leave, so he did.  To bad they couldn't just say that.

I give up
He was ready to sign for 4.5 mil for one year back in spring training. If that story isn't enough to nuke this idiotic line of reasoning, nothing will.

I saw Torre on the Letterman show
Basically, he didn't seem to make a big deal over the amount and, I gathered, the length. To him, it was a sense of looking across the table and feeling like there wasn't any support in the room.

I think Torre would have signed that very same deal had the Yanks presented it a whole lot differently.

It wasn't the deal; it was the way the brass made it clear that he was expected to turn it down.

You do realize
that you are the only one arguing this point, right? The difference between firing someone and offering them a 33% paycut is just semantics.

Really
can you imagine.  He probably thinks he's having a nightmare from which he can't awaken.

I imagine him . . .
waking up on Monday and thinking, wow this is the first time, I've felt well in October in years.  Then he opens the newspaper and all of a sudden there is a little twinge.

I hope he is
I don't foresee Girardi coming close to that 12 straight postseason appearances.
