2010 Rotation - Santana Who?

Joba Chamberlain
Phil Hughes
Dellin Betances
Wang
Ian Kennedy

This rotation in 2010 is very posible. I truley believe that as long as Betances stays healthy he very well could become our ace and with Hughes and Joba, The Yanks could have 3 possible aces for the next decade. I know this is still a long shot, but Joba has already shown he has the stuff and the composure and I believe if Hughes regains his velocity he had before his injury he can also be ace material. I truly believe that Dellin Betances has the highes ceiling of these three. He has three plus pitches at 19 and already throws 98 with very good command. At 6'9 230 lbs. he will be a presence without even throwing a pitch and combine that with his raw talent and a face of stone, this kid could be very special.
"Betances went 0-1 with a 1.16 ERA in seven starts in rookie ball with the Gulf Coast League Yankees last season, striking out 27 in 231/3 innings and allowing just three earned runs. He showed flashes of why the million dollar bonus was a solid investment - both Newman and a scout who saw Betances in Tampa said the righty hit 98 mph on the radar gun in a start in last August."
"Coaches, scouts and team officials salivate over the 19-year-old righthander's potential. One scout gushes over his progress and predicts he'll be with the big club by 2010."
Needless to say I am very excited about a future concerning our rotation. Even though I love the idea of Santana in our rotation, we don't need him.

Agreed
But some combination of the Joba, Hughes, IPK, Horne, Betances, Brackman, Sanchez, McAllister, and Pope...

I'd still trade any one (two if you don't include a member of the Trinity) of those plus Melky for Santana.

If Brien behaved himself
and stayed out of bar fights, he coulda been the next Gooden.

Maybe
But it's not like he was even pitching well before the fight.

Please don't remind me of him
but he got injured in a fight, so that doesn't count.

IPK
everyone holds this guy in such high regard. He has average stuff at best and its a strech that he will be the next maddux or even mussina. I just not sold on this kid I think at best he is a #4 on a great Yankees team. Take IPK out of the so called trinity. Hughes and Joba those are the guys that should be put in that class of untouchables. If you can include IPK in a trade for say Santana go for it. IPK will never be that IT guy you all keep hyping him up to be. I may be dreaming but I believe that Betances will push IPK to the back of the rotation or even a trade out of NY for some position players, we shall see.
Off topic but when does Jeter move to the outfield? His range is awful but I think a corner outfield spot in 2010 or 2011 makes perfect sense.
You all make great points with Taylor ( I remember how excited I was for him to take over the Bronx) Either way the future for the Yankees pitching look like another dynasty just waiting to explode. you all have a great weekend. Lets Go Rockies!

Jeter
Hopefullly, soon.
Realistically, not during this contract (2010).  An injury to his legs or his throwing arm could move him to right field/1B sooner.

The next Moose
You say that as if it is a bad thing?! Moose sucks now but we should be doing backflips if IPK turns out to be half the pitcher that Moose is/was.

That being said, including him in the "Trinity" is pretty fucking hilarious. That is like including Bon Jovi in a trinity of great bands including with the Stones and the Beatles.

mussina
I was just trying to make it clear that Maddux is a once in a lifetime pitcher and Mussina is a step below. I would still love to have a young Mussina, maybe one that doesn't whine as much. Mussina has a had a very good career, probaly 2 GREAT years away from the HOF.

should be interesting
That first game with Jeter in the outfield will feel the twilight zone. hey, Jscape2000 would you put him in left for right field. I think I would keep him on the left side of the field. He's been their his whole life and a change would be akward even for such a great player. I think seeing the ball from the left side will make the transition easier. Whats your take and have you seen Betances pitch I noticed that you guys are hardcore Yankees fans so wondering if you happen to catch him pitch with StatenIsland Yanks yet and if so whats your take on him?

As for Jeter
The decision should be made in the offseason so that he has the entire offseason and Spring Training to adjust.

If he doesn't make the move until he's in his late 30s, I'd have to think right field- he's got a good arm and there's less ground to cover.  Soriano went from right side (2B) to left field with only the expected amount of trouble.  Biggio moved out gracefully his entire career.

I've not seen Betances (nor most of the top prospects).  My opinions are based on things I've read around the web (I can't recommend Baseball America enough).

Jeter
Is Jeter at first base not an option? I don't what our situation there would look like in a few years, but I could imagine him playing there. He wouldn't provide the type of production we would be looking for from 1st base, but with him I don't think that would matter.

Given his range to his left
I would think getting him as close to the first base foul line would be a great idea!

I think
the switch to first would be much harder than the switch to the outfield.

Obviously, it's all idle speculation at this point.  The decision will depend on the makeup of the team and Jeter's skills at the time.

Jeter at 1st
I personaly think Jeter is to athletic to stick him at first. Jeter in left or right field I thinks makes more sense. Jeter is such a smart player, let him use his best talents in the open space in the outfield. I think he would be great at positioning himself, great arm, still will have good speed for an corner outfielder, and again very athletic. Too much talent for 1st base. I'm not trying to take anything away from the position 1B, I played 1B growing up, but I just don't think it suits Jeter abilities.

Thanks for posting
Good stuff.

Just think, if by chance both Betances and Brackman find themselves on the big club over the next few years, they will undoubtedly have the tallest pitching 1-2 combo in MLB history.

Nardi Contreras says that Betances' motion is pretty smooth for such a big frame.
