AL vs. NL win totals for the 2006 regular season

A few questions regarding the 2006 regular season:

First off, just how bad was the National League during the regular season in 2006?

Only ONE team - the Mets (who else?) - is going to finish with 90+ wins on the season.

Which NL teams still have a shot at 90+ wins?

Dodgers and Padres are tied with just 81 wins, with 9 games remaining.

Either team could conceivably win all 9 of their remaining games to reach the 90-win plateau, but the odds are highly unlikely at this point.

Conversely, as of today, the American League already has FOUR teams - Yankees, Tigers, Twins, A's - who have surpassed 90+ wins for the regular season.

Which AL teams still have a shot at 90+ wins?

ChiSox  (85 wins, 8 games remaining)

BoSox  (83 wins, 8 games remaining)

LA Angels  (82 wins, 9 games remaining)

Obviously, regular season win totals don't always translate to postseason success, but does anyone think the National League will send anyone but the NY Mets to the World Series?

I found a hilarious Boston Sucks Joke.
Two boys are playing hockey on a pond in Central Park when one is attacked by a rabid Rottweiler.

Thinking quickly, the other boy takes his stick, wedges it down the dog's collar and twists, breaking the dog's neck.

A reporter who was strolling by sees the incident, and rushes over to interview the boy. "Young Rangers Fan Saves Friend from Vicious Animal," he starts writing in his notebook.

"But I'm not a Rangers fan," the little hero replied.

"Sorry, since we are in New York, I just assumed you were," said the reporter. "Yankees Fan Rescues Friend From Horrific Attack" he continued writing in his notebook.

"I'm not a Yankees fan either," the boy said.

"I assumed everyone in New York was either for the Rangers or Yankees. What team do you root for?" the reporter asked.

"I'm a Red Sox fan," the child replied.

The reporter starts a new sheet in his notebook and writes, "Little Bastard from Boston kills Beloved Family Pet."

I feel it has to be the Mets
Whereas in the AL, really anything can happen in the playoffs.  Of course I want the Yanks to be what happens, but all the teams are good enough to win, so it's going to be an interesting post season.  I'm going to be on the edge of my seat.

Whereas I think the Mets are the class of the NL, possibly the surging Dodgers if they get the WC could make it interesting.

the Mets would have to choke
to not make the World Series. none of the other teams are serious contenders. only the phillies are playing very well right now, but they are not equal to the mets.

while they should make it, remember
that Pedro's health is a big question mark and Philadelphia played them tough all year. This year, no team's pitching is lights out enough to not be worried.

The Logic of Wins
I'm not sure I really follow your logic here. Just because there are fewer teams with 90 wins means the league is bad?

No, it doesn't. It simply means the league is more competitive.

The AL will also have 2 100-game losers and the NL won't. Does that mean the NL is better?

You have to look at individual talent rather than over wins and losses.

Good point
about the 2 100-loss teams.
But individual talent isn't the answer either.  I look to the fact that a seriously flawed team (the Mets) are the only runaway team.  Conversely, AL teams that I would take over any NL team (Anaheim, Chicago, Boston) are out of the playoffs.
Have faith in the Yankees my son. Think of the great DiMaggio.
