Angels | A-Rod in Anaheim?
Thu, 21 Sep 2006 00:59:44 -0700

The Los Angeles Daily News' Doug Padilla is reporting the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim may make a serious run at acquiring 3B Alex Rodriguez from the New York Yankees if Rodriguez requests a trade or the Yankees decide to shop him around. If the deal goes through, the Yankees figure to ask for no less than SP Ervin Santana, RP Scot Shields, OF Chone Figgins and a high-level prospect.

This is pretty ridiculous speculation
from the author.

But in this hypothetical scenario I would also ask for G. Anderson, and I'd take him and Figgins out back and shoot them.  That would do a ton to help the Yanks right there.

A bullpen of Bruney->Proctor->Shields->Farnsworth->Mo is sick though.

Of course this will never ever happen.

A-Rod isn't going anywhere
A-Rod makes way too much money and there is no chance that LA is going to pursue him.

Let's not forget this is the same organization that refused to trade for Soriano at the deadline because they didn't want to add that much payroll, even though they desperately needed a bat to overtake Oakland.

Soriano's salary is a drop in the bucket in comparison to A-Rod and they didn't even want to take on his contract for a couple of months.

Secondly, A-Rod has a full no-trade clause in his contract and he is not going to approve a trade to another club.

A-Rod knows as well as anybody that his legacy as one of the greatest players of all time would be severly tarnished if he were to approve a trade out of town and essentially admit that he couldn't hack it on MLB's biggest stage.

I just don't see it happening and A-Rod knows he's pretty much stuck in NY.

And finally, I think the A-Rod bashing will alleviate substantially if he produces in the postseason and the Yankees win the World Series, which I think they will do.

There are certainly A-Rod bashers that will never give him a break regardless of what he does and those people will never leave him alone.

However, this lineup is too powerful for the rest of baseball and I think they are going to pound away this postseason.

I don't think anyone is going to beat this team and one big monkey will finally be off A-Rod's back.

You are right
and I'm tired of hearing the A-Rod trade rumors, they are ridiculous every one of them. Entertaining them for a second is silly.

First of all, at his worst, A-Rod is still a damn good player.  That gets lost in all the media hype and crap but the boss, Cash and Torre don't forget that for a second.  They know that he will play like himself again eventually, even if it isn't this year.  They do not need to dump salary like other teams, he is not their highest paid player.

I sincerely hope A-Rod does well in the post season, or at least doesn't embarrass himself so we aren't treated to another year of this media coverage.  I have to tell you I've hated it the entire time.  It really distracts from the game.

Stupid rumors
Boston Globe ran a story speculating that ARod and Manny would both be traded this winter.  The usual crap about Manny, the hook for ARod was... the SI story.  Nothing beyond that, just saying that the media was talking about him again so he needs to be traded.  I love when newspapers talk about things happening due to "the media", as if they didn't create the story themselves.

A-rod Trade
With 10 games to go and the team focused on a world championship, we have to deal with yet another A-ROD situation. Now we have a SI story about "his" slump; and now he is naming other negatives about his teammates (eg. mariano blew 4 saves in one week). Does this guy carry this stuff around in his wallet?  This is just what we need, one Yankee who should know bett fer (but he doesnt) throwing trash at his teammates.  Did you read where he said that people might hate him because he is biracial?  Hey A-Rod..look to your left on the field..there's another biracial player standing there who is loved...A-Rod has now crossed that line in the Yankee clubhouse and the Yankee management knows it. A-Rod is gone..sure as death and taxes..its all over but the shouting and screaming..and I cant wait.

He's one of those pesky players
who gets in right under the skin.  Hate that bastard.

A-Rod Trade
Money is not an issue here. Texas already pays $10M of his salary.  The Yankees agree to pay $5-6M of his remaining amount and same team gets him at a bargain $5-6M.  AROD is worth a solid young starter, a work-a-day third baseman and a couple of solid prospects.

It doesn't work that way
Texas pays a lot of A-Rod's contract because they made a deal with the Yankees, but the portion they are paying may or may not translate to another club.

Secondly, A-Rod won't accept a trade out of town.  He won't leave this team because his legacy means a lot to him (as evidenced by his ability to rattle off his stats at will) and he doesn't want to put even the smallest blemish on his career.

Ain't gonna happen.

A-Rod is cheap
A-Rod makes 16 million dollars this year from the Yanks. That is cheap. Soriano will probably get 15 this offseason and he is no where near the player that A-Rod is. I can never see this trade happening but its not because LA wouldnt do it. LA would jump on a chance to add A-Rod as there third baseman and bat him behind Vlad. Even in this down year he is still hitting .280 with 30+ homers and a solid OBP. There are very few third baseman who can match those numbers. He is probably the third best offensive third baseman this season behind Glaus and Cabrera, and A-Rod is better on defense than either of them.

in addition
Since it is fun to speculate, this is what I want for A-Rod if he was to go to LA. I want Scot Shields, Brandon Wood, Ervin Santana, Mathis and Kendry Morales. Mathis becomes a young catcher to groom to take Jorge's place, Morales becomes our everyday first baseman, Santana joins Wang as our young pitching core, Wood gives us an elite talent to groom to be our future third baseman, and Shields goes in the pen and finally gives us a great set-up guy for Mariano and a guy who could close out those 3 run games so we can rest Mo.

Our Hero A-Rod
I see our hero is warming up for the playoffs with a nice 4-28 (.143) BA...and this after the Yanks clinched with no pressure. I can only foresee a total flop against the Twins.......Anaheim here we come...
