Please No Trade!
Angels | A-Rod in Anaheim?
Thu, 21 Sep 2006 00:59:44 -0700
The Los Angeles Daily News' Doug Padilla is reporting the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim may make a serious run at acquiring 3B Alex Rodriguez from the New York Yankees if Rodriguez requests a trade or the Yankees decide to shop him around. If the deal goes through, the Yankees figure to ask for no less than SP Ervin Santana, RP Scot Shields, OF Chone Figgins and a high-level prospect.

This is pretty ridiculous speculation
But in this hypothetical scenario I would also ask for G. Anderson, and I'd take him and Figgins out back and shoot them. That would do a ton to help the Yanks right there.
A bullpen of Bruney->Proctor->Shields->Farnsworth->Mo is sick though.
Of course this will never ever happen.

A-Rod isn't going anywhere
Let's not forget this is the same organization that refused to trade for Soriano at the deadline because they didn't want to add that much payroll, even though they desperately needed a bat to overtake Oakland.
Soriano's salary is a drop in the bucket in comparison to A-Rod and they didn't even want to take on his contract for a couple of months.
Secondly, A-Rod has a full no-trade clause in his contract and he is not going to approve a trade to another club.
A-Rod knows as well as anybody that his legacy as one of the greatest players of all time would be severly tarnished if he were to approve a trade out of town and essentially admit that he couldn't hack it on MLB's biggest stage.
I just don't see it happening and A-Rod knows he's pretty much stuck in NY.
And finally, I think the A-Rod bashing will alleviate substantially if he produces in the postseason and the Yankees win the World Series, which I think they will do.
There are certainly A-Rod bashers that will never give him a break regardless of what he does and those people will never leave him alone.
However, this lineup is too powerful for the rest of baseball and I think they are going to pound away this postseason.
I don't think anyone is going to beat this team and one big monkey will finally be off A-Rod's back.

You are right
First of all, at his worst, A-Rod is still a damn good player. That gets lost in all the media hype and crap but the boss, Cash and Torre don't forget that for a second. They know that he will play like himself again eventually, even if it isn't this year. They do not need to dump salary like other teams, he is not their highest paid player.
I sincerely hope A-Rod does well in the post season, or at least doesn't embarrass himself so we aren't treated to another year of this media coverage. I have to tell you I've hated it the entire time. It really distracts from the game.

It doesn't work that way
Secondly, A-Rod won't accept a trade out of town. He won't leave this team because his legacy means a lot to him (as evidenced by his ability to rattle off his stats at will) and he doesn't want to put even the smallest blemish on his career.
Ain't gonna happen.
