Weather?
It is terrible right now In NYC.  FOX may not think the game will proceed uninturrupted or be finished at all.

i don't think so
i don't think weather should have anything to do with a blackout.  regardless, FOX isn't broadcasting this game or any other game today.  only telecasts today are local.

blackout
according to the recording at the 800 number for MLB.TV, all Saturday day games are blacked out period.  has nothing to do with what is or is not actually being broadcast on that particular day.

talk about brain dead policies.  sheez.

I'm not blacked out in Califfornia
Usually Fox blacks us out, but not today. I got the YES broadcast (until the rain delay). I have MLB Extra Innings through my cable company.

What happened to Villone? Reading this, it sounded like he sucked?

that's interesting
so it was just MLB.TV that screwed up.  that figures.  what a poorly run service.

MLB.TV
my understanding is that the blackout rules are determined by MLB, not MLB.TV or DirectTV or anyone else.  the Saturday day game and Sunday night game blackouts are a result of exclusives that MLB gave to Fox Broadcasting (Sat) and ESPN (Sun).  blackouts should be the same for MLB.TV and MLB Extra Innings -- if it's available on one, it should be available on the other (ignoring the local issues which don't apply to me as far as Yankee games go).  given that MLB Extra Innings carried this game, it sure seems to me that MLB.TV should have also carried it.  someone at MLB.TV just dropped the ball.

The game was blacked out for me
I have the Extra Innings package through Directv and live in NorCal - no game....

Interesting that Direct TV
doesn't carry the blacked out games while cable TV does. I'm on Cox Cable and I got the game and have gotten others (but not always). Don't really understand this whole thing.

yeah, weird
it is a confusing mess.  sure hope MLB straightens it out sometime soon.

The game...
...is on the ESPN Asia channel on TVU.

Nice...
...seven innings from the rookie; well done.  Let's not waste this.

Karstens...
I think the rookie may have eliminated any chance (like the really was one) of the Yankees pick up Jaret Wright's option and maybe lessened the chances of them picking up Mussina's option or resigning him.  Let the Youth Movement continue.  After next year RJ will be gone and Phillips and Clippard will be dominating in the rotation.  It makes me all tingly to think about the Yankees having 4 solid homegrown starters (Wang, Phillips, Clippard, and Karstens)

Re:
Tough to win it all with so many young starting pitchers.  I'm guessing there will be at least 2 Free Agent vets in the rotation for the next few years.

Oh and it's Hughes not Phillips.

ugh...
yeah, i'm an idiot Phillip Hughes.  i feel so dumb.

Villone
looks like his magic has pretty much disappeared.  he's now given up runs in 7 of his last 8 appearances, and over that time has a double-digit ERA.

i guess the good news is that we've got a month to figure out who is going to take his position in the post-season.  that, and make sure Proctor is well rested, as he hasn't looked too good lately either.

VIllone
Did a good job the game that we lost to Detroit getting out of a bases loaded jam. He's far from being over. I think. I didn't see Kartstens--black out. If the Yanks can dump Wright next year, that's great...I looked at CLippard's stats pretty good. Have you heard about how he throws?

by John Amato on Sep 2, 2006 3:40 PM EDT reply actions

i hope you're right
but today was only his second appearance in the last  7 days.  admittedly before that he was getting used perhaps too much -- but he sure should have been rested today.

I'm surprised since
the rosters expanded they didn't call up Crosby and Small, shows how low they have felt on the totem poll.

by ReLaunch on Sep 3, 2006 12:28 AM EDT reply actions

Are they allowed to bring Crosby
back at all? I thought that was why we released him, because we weren't allowed to move him anymore. Does anyone know what smalls numbers have been like since they sent him down.

by Edwantsacracker on Sep 3, 2006 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Small
5.62 ERA and .360 BAA.  i wonder why they didn't bring him back up? :)
