Torre Manager of the Year???

I believe that Joe Torre should be manager of the year.  WHAT?????  Baseball writers would probably say that I am crazy because surely Jim Leyland should win it. He took the Tigers from a crappy team struggling to be .500 to the team with the best record in baseb....wait a minute...the Tigers no longer have the best record the Yanks do.  Well well.  Also the Tiger slide of late has something to do with Leyland's insistance on playing Nefi Perez who belongs nowhere near a baseball diamond.  Meanwhile Joe Torre has lead a club that has had injuries to major contributors and perrenial all-stars such as Matsui, Sheffield, Mussina, Rivera, Cano and a season long slump by one of the best players in baseball to the best record in baseball.  For me Torre at least deserves consideration and when you look at it he probably deserves to win.

Consideration, yes.
But the award?  Not by a long shot.  Leyland should win it.  The Tigers are going to the postseason in a year when they shouldn't even have been in the picture.  Second choice: Ron Gardenhier.  The Twins were out of it, but he didn't panic or attack his players (see Guillen, Ozzie).  The mounted one of the best second half runs since the '51 Giants to get a shot at the division.
Yes, Torre managed through trouble.  When $35 million worth of personel is on the DL (Pavano, Shef, Matsui, Cano) it's a problem for any club.  The difference is that left the Yankees with $165 million to work with.  I love Joe and defended him last year when others on this blog called for his head, but this team is only doing what is expected of it.
Have faith in the Yankees my son. Think of the great DiMaggio.

As the Tigers fade
Gardenhire looks like a more deserving candidate than Leyland, perhaps?
Thank you Aaron Boone.

I'm for Gardenhire
Just because of his change of managerial tact this season.

I read way too much of Aaron Gleeman.

Gardenhire
he is also deserving, but if the Twins miss the playoffs, I doubt he will win.
