Octavio Dotel activated today

Is he going to be key?  At the very least, he'll give a break to Farnsworth and Proctor.  If returns to the same form as a setup man that he showed with the Astros, the Yankees bullpen will be great. ESPN

Octavio Dotel was activated Wednesday by the New York Yankees, 14 months after the reliever had a ligament replaced in his right elbow. To open a roster space, the Yankees optioned reliever Jose Veras to Triple-A Columbus of the International League.

YEAAAAHHH!!
To answer your question, I can only assume he's going to be more key than Jose Veras.  Who let's face it, does suck.  Middle relief is certainly going to be key, lets see if he's really up for it.

When Veras
was given the opportunity, he didn't suck, he ony gave up one run

this is funny
Because I was at Friday's game and I think he gave up the run without even pitching a complete inning.    Maybe that felt especially sucky to me, but I suppose it can happen to anyone.  I was also at Sunday's game where he did fine.

Yeah,
I was there too. He gave up a homer to Vlad and then Torre took him out.  That was the only run he gave up in his stint in the majors (he did pitch less than 5 innings)

I was there too
That Vlad homer was a fucking bullet, one of the hardest hit balls I have ever seen.

At least we won't have to read any
"when Dotel returns..." posts anymore.

Did anyone hear
or read Mike Mussina's comments about yesterday's game?

After Tuesday's comeback 6-3 Yankees win against the Orioles, a reporter led off his interview asking Mussina if he felt confident keeping the game close and waiting for the big hit to come through.

"You want to ask a question about the game?" Mussina snapped back.

"My version of the game was their starter pitched pretty well and until the two of us got out of the game, we couldn't get a hit when we needed it," he said. "My version of the game was, when I left, we got the offense going."

He seems rather upset. Later on he comments:
"The difference between going six and giving up three, and going seven and giving up one may be one ground ball, one blooper, one ... of anything," Mussina said.

I think we all know what that blank is. (error)

I believe I read
That what earned the "You want to ask a question about the game?" was a reporter openning the questioning by asking if Moose thought he still had a shot at 20 wins (13 wins with 9 or 10 starts remaining).  If I were Mike Mussina, that would piss me off too.
Have faith in the Yankees my son. Think of the great DiMaggio.

The Savior

Our bullpen is now complete. Proctor and Villone's arms won't fall off.

Of course, Bernie is in CF so our chances to win tonight have been drastically reduced.

As Far as Bernie
With the lefty going it is a perfect opportunity to rest Johnny Come Through Lately for the grueling five game series ahead.   Bernie's numbers against lefties are not so bad.

PS. Proctor and Villone's arms may still fall off.

Thank you Aaron Boone.

Yeah,
but his range is only 5 feet to each side

Dotel
Let's not get too excited about this.  We don't know what he's got, and many analysts believe it will take him half a season to regain form.  Also, he had been very poor at times for the A's (as their closer) prior to his DL trip.  Still, he's got potential to be at least as good as Proctor, and that's excting.

He only
signed a 1 year contract with no option for next year.  Free agen again will probably mean he will leave

I read that too
but players leave all the time after they say that stuff.  Clemens wanted to retire as a yankee, etc so I don't believe it unless they sign their name on the contract

Dotel
Dotel can turn out a success...I just remember 1 thing about him thats kinda funny...when he was in Houston, he came in the 9th with the bases loaded on the road and gave up a walk off balk
