Abreu and Lidle Bronx Bound?

From ESPN Insider:

Is Abreu Yankee-bound?

Jul 29 - The odds are becoming greater that Abreu will be moved before the deadline, and the Yankees are the most likely match for a trade, reports ESPN.com's Jayson Stark.

The Phillies and Yankees spoke about Abreu all day Friday and into the night, discussing different variations of a deal that would send the outfielder to New York.

Star-divide

The two teams are looking at other options Saturday that could include a package for Abreu and pitcher Cory Lidle or just for Abreu. The Phillies want both big-league talent and prospects in return, especially reliever Scott Proctor, whom they could eventually convert into a starter.

The Phillies have backed off in their demand for either top pitching prospect Philip Hughes or outfield prospect Jose Tabata and instead would settle for other prospects, like third baseman Eric Duncan or pitcher Tyler Clippard.

Abreu is set to make $15 million in 2007, and he also has a $16 million option on his contract for 2008.

Not sold on Abreu
If you are going to pay a guy that much money, he better hit more than a dozen HR for you. I know he is an on-base machine, but where did his power go? And his defense is probably worse than Sheff, so if you are going to spend that much money the next two seasons, why not just resign Sheff? You know he will mash and he has a good injury history. This wrist thing was just a freak accident and not a sign of someone breaking down.

True, because paying Sheffield
13 Million to sit out a season has worked out so well.

It was a freak
injury.  I would rather have Sheffield than Abreu.  Abreu has the same psyche as Arod, at least Sheff is tough and not a little bitch.  I presonally don't know if I want either of them on the team next year

I agree
He isn't shutting it down in protest. This isn't some whiny athlete "pulling a hammy" a la Juan Gone or some shit like that. The guy broke his fucking wrist on a freak play.

And Reinjured

But Shef
is the definition of whiny bitch.  I know we talk about it "angry, hungry Shef with something to prove" and that makes it ok somehow.  He's never done anything wrong in his life, and the world is out to get him.  Seriously, I can live without him.
Have faith in the Yankees my son. Think of the great DiMaggio.

I hear
you, but he has a better mental make up for NY.  Abreu seems like he is having a tough time in Philly and looks like he is beginning to decline

good point
funny how when Sheffield whines about stuff, every one says that's just "Shef being Shef".  but Mussina dares to simply state the obvious, everyone is all over him for whining.

It wasn't whining
It was calling his teammate out in the press (even though it was true) that was bush league.

I know
And he has been forgiven by me, but it was bush league. Moose pretty much admitted that the next day.

I respectfully disagree
Throwing your teammates under the bus is never OK.

Sheff's not a whiner
He's paranoid. Everyone's out to get him. But he doesn't talk about his teammates' weaknesses, like Mussina. And when he's on, he strikes fear in the hearts of opposing pitchers. Call me crazy, but I want him back.

Me too
But not if they get Abreu. Giambi is so brutal with the glove that we really can't afford to let him play the field.
