Trade Rumors from the NY Times
According to this, thank God, the Yankees have NO interest in that Burnitz stiff and minimal interest in Jose Guillen.
From the Times:
For the moment, Cashman is waiting. The Phillies are on the fringes of the National League wild-card race, but the season has turned sour and the team is likely to unload veterans near the July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline.
As a left-handed outfielder who reaches base often, Abreu, 32, is in some ways an ideal fit for the Yankees. But he has never led the Phillies to the postseason in nine seasons in Philadelphia and is due to make $15 million next year. Abreu also has a $16 million option for 2008 that would most likely have to be exercised for him to approve a trade.
The more money the Phillies are willing to absorb, the better talent the Yankees would be willing to trade. But the Yankees insist they will not deal their top prospects, pitcher Phil Hughes and outfielder José Tabata.
If the Phillies ask the Yankees to pay all of Abreu's salary, the Yankees would be unlikely to offer much talent in return. Detroit, Boston and the Mets could also have interest in Abreu.
The Phillies would rather move outfielder Pat Burrell, just as Washington would rather move outfielder José Guillén than Alfonso Soriano. The Yankees have no interest in Burrell and minimal interest in Guillén. They like Soriano, but the Nationals have been trying to trade him to the Angels, who have a deeper farm system than the Yankees.
The Yankees have also spoken with the Pittsburgh Pirates, who are shopping outfielders Craig Wilson and Jeromy Burnitz and relievers Roberto Hernández and Salomon Torres. But talks have gone nowhere because the Yankees have no interest in Burnitz and the Pirates would want to include him in any deal.

damn
But anyway, I have a feeling that any deal would have to involve Melky Cabrera, which doesn't bother me; I'm not high on him. I am also opposed to dealing Brett Gardner. Abreu I like. I do not want to get any Pirates reliever or Jeromy Burnitz. I do not mind Craig Wilson. As for Soriano, I definitly prefer him to Jose Guillen; I would also prefer Abreu to Pat Burrel, as I think most would.

Melky...
"...I must applaud Melky for his efforts in keeping us alive in this bitter stretch..."
Two Things: How has Melky kept us alive through this "bitter stretch?" Let me know. What has he done that is so amazing that he is saving the Yankees from 3rd Place or lower? Tell me, please.
Also, how has this been a "bitter stretch?" Um, I think we just swept the White Sox. That is anything but bitter. We have been in the thick of it all year this year. Really. OK, maybe for a week or maybe 2, we've been in 3rd place. Probably only 1 week. But even when we are in 3rd (IF we were in 3rd), we were only like 5 or less games behing the Sux and the Blue Jays. I just don't understand how this is bitter. We are doing good.
You're killing me kid
Let's take Melky's 212 AB's and give them to Bubba Crosby. Assuming that overexposure doesn't limit Crosby's effectiveness even more (strong assumption), the difference in Melky's .360 OBP and Crosby's .266 OBP is 75% (actually 74.9, but I'm keeping this simple). That's 8 fewer runs scored and 7 fewer RBIs. Or about a run less every week of the season. That plus his defense, Melky has been nothing short of a revelation.
And the real reason I started this response is that we aren't "doing good". We're doing well. You can't do good. Unless you're Batman or Scooby Doo. In which case it's hyphonated, as in "I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for those do-gooders and their dog."

how about Shawn Green
I always liked him, and he's cheaper than abreu or Soriano.

Christ, no! Do we really want another
Shawn Green
Here are his current stats not as much pop as he used to have, but still a good hitter, better than anything the Yankees have at corner OF now.
.304 AVG, .360 OBP, .460 SLG, 8 HR, 38 RBI
Not too shabby. I'll take an .820 OPS hitter over Bernie in the OF.
He is not

There is no reason
Yes he made his only error of the year there, but he's more comfortable in the outfield now.
The real question is which Matsui comes off the DL? Is it 2003 defensive Matsui or 2005 defensive Matsui? The '03 version plays left, the '05 version plays right or DHs. If Shef comes back I'd like to see him DH, but until that happens the slot is open.
Melky in right

He TOOK bad routes
Why would you think that his improvement is limited to left field?
