Great Win
Who would have thought that the Yanks could have a streak of at least 10 hits in twelve consecutive games with all these injuries? I think the Cashman effect is taking hold. We have young talent, let them tough it out. Keep Tampa away from him. Go after someone if it looks like we really need to. Pitching is the key. That's where the Yanks need to focus on.
You could see that Phillips had talent when he first came up. Now he's got the chance and making the most of it. Mike Francesca always dumps on Melky, but the kid is 21. His power will improve as any baseball fan knows.

That was indeed a great win
And wow, I can't believe Melky is only 21. Now Mussina's quote (see my signature) about his run for home last night makes even more sense! And btw, the second part of that quote is: "That's why we play these games, to see something new every day."
p.s. Armando tipped me off to your blog. This is my first post. God help me posting on yet another blog!

Welcome!!!
You're right. The Yanks have a long history of big name stars, and an even bigger history of lesser known players that have been considered nobodies but would play together to make a deadly combination against any opponent.
I think back to the names that played with Ruth and Goehrig, that played with DiMaggio, that were the backbone for Mantle, and that have come and gone since the 60's. Let's face it, the only real period in the team's long and storied history in which the Yanks weren't considered a powerhouse was the 70's-80's, and nobody wanted to face them then.
Thanks for the welcome, Ed

Before my time
What about '65 through the early 70s?
GrandEd, if like me you're old enough to remember Mantle, you surely must recall the sorry pre-Steinbrenner Mike Burke/CBS teams of the late 60s and early 70s. Compared to those teams, the later teams WERE powerhouses.
