Bad Loss. but I told you so!

The Crystal Ball is correct once again. I know I'll get killed when it fails, but I'm having a little fun with it right now.

I wish the Yanks had been bombed because a loss like this stings, but anyone would have been happy going 3-1 against the Tigers on the road with this rag-tag bunch. I was worried after Long popped up with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh-which left run number seven stranded, but then I knew the Yanks were toast when I heard Mariano tweaked his back.

What I'm seeing now is a gutsy Yankee team that is pulling togther like they haven't before in a long time since this outburst of injuries and hopefully George will realize the Yanks don't need an all star at every position to win.

Kevin Thompson called up.
I hope Torre gives him his shot and takes playing time away from Long.

Thompson
should get some playing time.  His style is all out, running hard always, etc, so it will be good.  I am happy that the team is pulling together, maybe we needed something like this to happen (injuries) to become a TEAM.

All Star Team
Goes to show George that you don't always have to have a team full of all-stars to win.

devil's advocate here
No, we don't need an All-Star team to win, but let's get a grip. We've lost two star outfielders - Matsui and Sheffield - and replaced them with Damon, who's got a broken toe...Bubba, who's on the DL...Melky, who's playing great right now but is still learning...Bernie, who's past his prime and shouldn't be playing as much as he is... T-Long, who basically sucks...and Kevin Thompson, who is an unknown quantity in the bigs. Are we really comfortable with that? Seriously? Wouldn't it be great to inject just one player with proven abilities both in the field and in the batter's box? I'd love to see if Thompson's got the goods and Melky stays the course. But if not, we have to look at other players. Winning the series against the Tigers was major - especially because the wins came from good pitching, timely hitting, and aggressive baserunning. But I'm thinking long haul and I'm wondering if we've got enough.

We don't need an All-Star
but Bobby Abreu would sure help.  In Matsui and Shef we lost 230ish RBIs from the lineup.  Cabrera has shown very little power, but that could change.  T-Long and Bernie are just sad subs compared to the other two bats.
Plus if Jeter, Posada, and Giambi are going to have some aches...
A left handed right fielder who's a mortal lock for 20 homers-20 SBs, 100 RS and 100 RBI, with a .400 OBP would not hurt our chances.
Have faith in the Yankees my son. Think of the great DiMaggio.

My 2 cents
Cabrera will never hit for as much power as Matsui or Sheff I expect when he matures 15 homer and 40 double power. I am perfectly fine with our outfield the way it is. We should save all our trading chips in case a good pitcher comes on the market. To look at the brightside an outfield of Damon Melky and Thompson will get to anything in the air.

I'd go for a starting pitcher too
The outfield situation is a mess, and it's definitely taken a toll on the Yankees offense.

But I'd rather patch to gather a line up until there is better sense of how long Sheff is out for and put getting a starter as the first priority.

I get the feeling the lil Livian Hernandez may be pitching in pinstripes before the season's over.

no for livan
I personally dont want Livan Hernandez

The outfield isnt hurting our offense. We are currently the best offense in baseball and Melky and Bernie have a lot to do with that. Long is really nothing special though.

I was pissed to hear that the Angels signed Kelvim Escobar to a 3 yr deal one more solid pitcher now unavailable.

Not saying I want him
but it feels like he's going to be the biggest "name" pitcher the Yankees can get.

They're not going to be able offer enough to get Willis, Prior or Zito, and Maddux won't come to NY.

Who else is out there; Kerry Woods (aren't there enough pitchers on the DL already,) Lohse?, Odalis Perez (I actually like him but he's not cut out for NYC.)

Livian Hernandez just seems to be the guy. Of course I'd be more than happy with taking a leap another guy like Chacon.

Ditto on no Livian
Maybe the Royal's new GM would trade us their young lefties if we agreed to pick up the entire salary for next year.
Livian is a guy who piles up stats by pitching a ridiculous number of innings.  I don't think his stuff or his approach would translate to the American League.  On the other hand, our fifth starter is Jaret Wright.

At least
though Livan will give you 7 innings each time out, unlike our staff when you get 5 and 1/3 it is considered a miracle (except Moose).  Livan won't cost that good prospects because the Nationals want to dump his salary

I understand
where you are coming from there are real slim pickings this year with pitchers who may be available.

yep, it's the pitching, stupid
i agree with the idea of just leaving the outfield as is -- like several here have said, nothing wrong with Melky-Damon-Thompson.  but the starting pitching is what is really scary at this point -- beyond Moose, there's virtually no one that can be counted on.  that means we're short at least two solid starters.  as much as i hate to say it, we really REALLY need Johnson to come around.  and i still haven't given up hope -- in fact, i was thinking the other day in Detroit when Good Randy showed up, the temperature was in the 90's.  and that's the first time he's pitched (other than indoors) when the temperature wasn't in the 60's.  now last year we heard a lot about him needing warm weather to really get going -- and sure enough, that's exactly what happened.  why aren't we hearing that same thing this year?  i can hope, can't i? :)

Global Warming=Big Unit wins
So what we need is a dramatic increase in Global Warming this fall.

Don't worry
The great "ace" Carl Pavano will be back in August.  He will take care of all the problems the Yanks have been having.  so far, the Yanks have paid $10 million for each win he has.

Cubs fire sale
I think the only one that they think of trading would be Kerry Wood. Zambrano is cheap, young and healthy and is all but untouchable. Prior is so talented that  I think they keep him too.

Yeah
There is no way they would trade Zambrano.

I think
if you have the power to do that, you should use your magical powers instead then to get Santana from the Twins.
