Johnny D!
looking nice and rested from a day at DH

by collink on May 19, 2006 7:12 PM EDT   0 recs

there you go Jeter
now if they can score another 5 runs as a cushion for Randy

by collink on May 19, 2006 7:15 PM EDT   0 recs

and the football game is on!
now to see if Johnson can just hold them to a field goal........

by lee on May 19, 2006 7:27 PM EDT   0 recs

i've seen enough
well, i sure called that.  this guy is finished.

by lee on May 19, 2006 7:35 PM EDT   0 recs

Randy Dandy
yep four runs weren't enough of a lead for the ace.

go get'em Brian!  you don't have many alternatives left at this point.

Posada
i didn't hear -- wouldn't surprise me if he just told Torre he was too embarrassed to be seen catching Johnson.

they did show Torre and Cashman talking right after Stinnett went in, and they were both smiling and laughing -- so apparently it's not anything serious.  or maybe that was all they could do to keep from crying.

by lee on May 19, 2006 8:02 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Posada
just announced "stiffness in back, day-to-day".  sheez, what else can go wrong?  Damon's playing with a broken bone in his foot, Bernie tweaked something running the bases in the first.  pretty soon we're going to be watching the Columbus Clippers rather than the Yankees.

by lee on May 19, 2006 8:15 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

that blows
hopefully they'll get all this bad luck with injuries out of the system in the begining of the season and have a healthy productive second half

by collink on May 19, 2006 8:20 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Randy
Johnson is hitting better than he's pitching tonight.  One hit in two at bats meanwhile he just gave up his second multi-run homer.

by TXYankee on May 19, 2006 8:22 PM EDT   0 recs

Going into 4th inning
Tie Game at 5...

Take Johnson Out Already

Go Yankees...

by goyankees on May 19, 2006 8:22 PM EDT   0 recs

Torre's got to take him out
next time it his turn to bat.

by collink on May 19, 2006 8:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

not gonna bat
He should...but Johnson will not bat in the 4th inning (likely cuz i just saw ARod Strike Out!!!!!!!(Fuming mad))
Go Yankees...

by goyankees on May 19, 2006 8:34 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Have I said I don't like Randy before?
I don't freaking believe this guy, what is a safe lead when Randy's pitching?

by collink on May 19, 2006 8:24 PM EDT   0 recs

Another one off the elbow pad
Seriously, he ALWAYS gets hit there.

Randy
During his last start one of the announcers was saying that Johnson promised to retire if he couldn't pitch up to his usual level.  It's time to break out the fishing gear.

by TXYankee on May 19, 2006 8:32 PM EDT   0 recs

Stinnett
Kelly Stinnet has two hits?  Unreal, but definitely needed, especially if Posada is out long.

by TXYankee on May 19, 2006 8:37 PM EDT   0 recs

yeah
yup...

by the way, after each inning I will give a Game Update for those with problems due to MLB.TV

I'm lucky, I live just outside of NY City

Go Yankees...

Cano
someone really needs to work with Cano on fielding basics.  who's job is that -- Mazilli's?

by lee on May 19, 2006 8:53 PM EDT   0 recs

yes
Mazzilli works on the defense

by Yankee Fanne on May 19, 2006 8:56 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

don't know
really have no idea why he's not still working with him-or is he?

Just got home
Sorry, I just got home. Pavano ran out of tampons, so I had to run to the store to pick some up for him so I missed the first few innings. However, I noticed that Johnson has given up two bombs, but can someone tell me if he has pitched better or worse than the actual box score?

Well,
At least RJ will not be eligible for the win.

I would hate to have seen him get a W for the way he pitched.

All that run support...

2-srike hits. 2-out runs.

Pull him now, please Mr. Torre?

by beckett on May 19, 2006 9:11 PM EDT   0 recs

Wow, what another stellar effort from the Big Question Mark. Erickson is warming up, so I guess Torre is throwing in the towel in a tie game?

Proctor
actually they haven't used him for two days -- so for once, the time is actually right to use him.  do you think Torre is capable of figuring that out?

by lee on May 19, 2006 9:21 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Erickson
I hope he doesn't pitch...I doubt it...he was warming up to relieve Johsnon if he needed it during the 5th, I assume, not to take over in the 6th

6-6 6th inning
Is it just my MLB.tv, but I rarely have that little bar on the screen that shows men on, balls and strikes and outs. It's frustrating. Almost as an frustrating as waiting for Mr. Torre to take that idiot off the mound.

by Bill Greineisen on May 19, 2006 9:18 PM EDT   0 recs

mlb.tv
nope, that's the way it is.  MLB.TV is a great package, but it's also frustrating -- there are so many little things that they could do better.

Paul O'Neill
Off the subject for a second, everyone should check out the new book by Molly O'Neill, Paul's sister, who used to be the food critic for the NY Times. The book's a memoir about their family and it's supposed to be "must reading" for Yankees fans.

Overstatement of the Century
Wow, that is incredible. This guy has been on fire this year, but it is only 40 games into the season. Other than this 40 game stretch, he has been a rather pedestrian reliever, now we are tabbing him as the successor to the greatest reliever in history. Absolutely absurd.

slugfest to pitcher's duel
weird game -- both teams were taking batting practice for five innings, now all of a sudden it's a pitchers duel!

by lee on May 19, 2006 9:36 PM EDT   0 recs

Well
He's always had great stuff, but never that knock-out pitch he's needed. He's finally got that this year, but your right maybe I was a little too hopeful.

by Joselimatime on May 19, 2006 9:38 PM EDT   0 recs

Pitching
I know our lineup has been decimated by injuries, but I am really concerned about the pitching. Moose and Wang look pretty good, but Chacon looks like Cinderella at 11:59PM every time he pitches, Wright is a huge question mark on his best day, and Big Unit is an absolute joke. We MAY be able to slug our way into the playoffs again this year, but there is no hope of actually winning anything. Right now, we don't come close to matching the rotations of Chicago and Boston, among others.

God Save The Yankees

by goyankees on May 19, 2006 9:54 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

No need to rush him
He is just a high school pitcher, so they have to build up his innings slowly. If you don't, you create Kerry Wood or AJ Burnett. Those guys were killed by their clubs as youngsters and look at them now. There is no need to harm the club long term in a panic move that may or may not help the current old, seriously flawed roster. With our pitching woes, it isn't like Hughes alone is going to fix anything.
