Mets copy off of Yanks and Rivera...and Bad Scheduling

This is a really dumb topic, but did anyone hear about Billy Wagner coming out to save the Mets game yesterday to Metallica's "Enter Sandman"?

...pretty pathetic on the Mets and Wagner's part.

Mike and the Mad Dog were talking about it yesterday...saying that Wagner is a huge Metallica fan, he had a bad childhood, etc...wah, wah (as Artie Lange would say).

Can't he and the Mets pick another song?  That's pretty gay, are they going to start playing "New York, New York" after their games (or do they already do that?)?

Can't wait till tonight, hopefully Moose can pitch 6 to 7 decent innings and the Bombers can tee off against Harden who they hit pretty well last year.

But, doesn't that suck that every other team played at normal times on opening day...most early yesterday but the Yankees fans had to wait until 10pm till first pitch.  Good scheduling Bud, ESPN...at least they aren't opening at 5am in Japan this year - that was retarded.

Should Billy Wagner come out to "Enter Sandman"?
Yes. Who cares?

Yes. They can do whatever they want, if the fans like it, do it.

Bad Scheduling
That just depends on your point of view. As a Hawaii resident (its a six hour time difference from the Bronx, if you were wondering,) I was thrilled to be able to come home and watch the game on ESPN 2.

And, yes, Billy Wagner's usage of "Enter Sandman" is very lame.

Scheduling
Well, I really was speaking for the East Coast fans on that one...I wasn't thinking about you Hawaii Yankee fans.  Although, I think your location in paradise more than makes up for any inconvenience in game times.
Go Yankees.

This may be a surprise...
Turns out baseball is played in other cities in America. One of these cities is called HOUSTON, and they have a team called the Astros that Billy used to play for. While closing games in 1997, he decided to use "Enter Sandman" to enter the game.

On the other side of the world...Mariano Rivera also adopted the same song, in the same year! That's right 1997!

What a coincidence! Other teams have traditions and customs that mimic the paragon squads of New York.

It's Mo's song
I couldn't care less if Wagner used Sandman in Houston. He's in New York now, and the king of closers is on the Yankees. Baseball is show business, and if the Mets want to capture the fans in the Big Apple, they should come up with their own brand of entertainment. It makes them look totally lame to use the same song, no matter who had it first. (This feels idiotic to even bother about, but I can't help myself.)

I just read that
Yeah, of course I read that after I posted the diary....I was just going off of the Mike and the Mad Dog discussion.

I think it was 1999, when both began using the song...its still weird, though.

Go Yankees.

No mas
No Wagner began in 1997, and the Yankees started using it for Mo in 1999.  Mo had no part in the selection, it's not his kind of music.

This is an extremely stupid argument.  Who cares who uses what music, that's nothing to do with baseball, that's strictly show biz.?  If Mo wins games for us, he can be introduced with "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" for all I care.

Mo doesn't mind if he and Wagner are introduced with the same song, so why should anyone else?

Mo's Type of Music
Yeah, an MLB.com article said that Mo's favorite music is Christian music. That doesn't quite sit well when compared to Metallica.

It's funny
Someone (I think O'Neill?) picked the song for Mo, and Bagwell picked it out for Wagner.  Neither guy is especially attached to it, but they've both had success with it.  Just pitch and don't worry about it.  Now, if what I've heard about the Mets starting up a Yankee style roll-call, that's copying.
Have faith in the Yankees my son. Think of the great DiMaggio.

Wagner Blows Save
II don't really care either, but its definately funny...It might be bad luck though...Wagner blew a save last night, maybe he should try another Metallica song.
Go Yankees.

Eh
It's a crappy song anyway -- and this is coming from a guy who owns every Metallica album through 1991.

Who cares, and....

Have to ask...
Is your name a reference to the infamous Oscar Azocar, or is it your actual name?

rivera
who cares bout the song, Rivera has four rings and Wagner has nothing, thats all that matters. and by the way i'm pretty sure that album sold more records that any other metallica album, so somebody must have bought the album.
