giambi's really back

Just wanted the opinions of you yankee fans, So Giambi got the comeback player of the year award last year as we all know. I feel that Giambi can and will produce big numbers over the entire season. I feel he can put up numbers like
280 AVG.
40 HRS
120 RBI's
over .400 OBP
What do you guys think? I feel besides Arod that Giambi can put the next best power numbers on the team, espeically with his OBP and walks.

Probably
I wouldnt be suprised at all by those numbers. He has looked great so far his OBP right now is .516 I wouldnt be suprised if he reaches those numbers at all. All the more reason he should be hitting in front of sheffield

Jury's still out
for me. Yeah, he walks a lot and yeah, there's the home run from time to time. But will he put up the next best power numbers to A Rod on the team? I don't think so. I think Sheffield still has the potential to do the most offensive damage if Joe rests him more this year.

I beg to differ
I dont think Sheffield is as good offensively as Giambi. Giambi played in 139 games last year and put up good numbers. He hit .271/.440/.535 with 32 HR. That OBP led the league. Sheffield last year in 154 games hit .291/.379/.512 with 34 HR. Personally I would much rather have two Giambis hitting on my team than two Sheffields.

Giambi was horrible in the first half of the season and spent the second half recovering his numbers. Sheffield is very consistent but IMO he isnt as good as Giambi. OBP and SLG are the two most important stats in determining how you helped the team. Giambi scored better in both those categories. They are very close hitters but I will take Giambi's edge in OBP over Sheffields edge in AVG

this time I totally agree with you, you nailed it perfectly. i enjoy hearing your opinions, but stats are sometimes misleading.

Stats are interesting
but all I can say is whenever I talk to friends who happen to be fans of opposing teams, they all say that the player their teams fear most in our lineup is Sheffield. He's just very intimidating to pitchers in a totally different way than Giambi, who is far more patient at the plate, granted.

If you're talking switching the lineup
moving Sheff down would piss him off.

But Jason seems ready to do whatever Joe asks him.

Sheff wants/needs to be in a spotlight position, and would probably perform worse in the 5 or 6 spot.

But on the other hand
Sheff seems to do better when he's angry at something.  Remember the series against Boston when he tried to knock down the Green Monster?
But his stats have been declining over the last 3 years despite having A-rod hitting behind him.  I don't know how to balance a need to move him down in the lineup against his attittude about that move.  But that's why Torre makes 7 million dollars a season and I don't.

Time to X Jason from the Discussion
Now that we are sure he's clean...realatively sure

Now that he's hitting.....well

Now that he's no longer a distraction nor a liability to the team.

Now that he's had a year's worth of beatings from the media.

Isn't it time we X Jason from the Steroid discussion?

Oh! Nice one off the upper deck facade the other day big boy! (he's reading...yes he is leave me alone!)

What? You gotta problem with that?

Giambi and Jeter
I think that so far, Giambi and Jeter have been doing the best. Jeter and Giambi always seem to get on base by walking or hitting. I would move Giambi to the 4th spot because Arod just isn't gettin the job done. Giambi will at least put the ball in play and not strike out like Arod has too many times. I also wish that Cairo could play everyday in the lineup because I think he rules. He is a good defensive player but a great offensive player also. It's just too bad he can't start at a position every game. Anybody else agree?

No
Not at all. If Cairo was to play every day he would almost certainly be overexposed. A start or two a week is all he should get. Cano is a far superior player to Cairo. I love Cairo as a utility guy but any more would be bad

Agree totally
I like Cairo a lot but he's a utility guy, not a bona fide starter.

Flaherty
said about Cairo when they were starters for the D-Rays, he steals but not enough; he hits but not enough; he defends but not enough.
We recognize the existance of AAAA players- they terrorize the minors but can't quite stick in the bigs.  Cairo's like that; too good to be a bench player, but not quite good enough to be a starter.
We're lucky to have him.
