2006 Yankees

I know we've been talking about this year's team for months now, espcially after Cashman's moves with the bullpen and Johnny Damon.

But just look at the Yankees.com assessment for the starting lineup, pitching rotation and key bullpen arms.

The biggest difference; Cano at second base and Damon in center.  And lets not forget Giambi is BACK.  That makes 3 huge additions to the lineup for opening day this year.

There are really only two players who batted less than .291 in the lineup and those players are Posada and Bernie.

Also enough cannot be said about Chacon and Wang.

Maybe I'm just itching for the season to start and looking optomistic but this team is a head above the 2005 Yankees, who were picked to win the Series before spring training.

I agree
The Yanks are in as good a position as anyone.  But that's just because everyone has so many questions around them.  I'm dying for the season to start too.
Have faith in the Yankees my son. Think of the great DiMaggio.

Actually
Besides Jeter, A-Rod and Mariano, I can't think of a single Yankee who I wouldn't put a question mark next to, be it for health or otherwise.  Same goes for the Red Sox, with only Ortiz and Manny being certainties.  But, hey, I wouldn't worry, I'm sure Aaron Small will be at least as good this time around.

Matsui too
except on defense.  But even on defense, he's still better than Manny or Ortiz.  So maybe it's a moot point.

Not talking certainty
you're talking all-stars...no team has 9 guys who will  be garanteed to bat .300, drive in 80 runs, etc.

I'm saying the Yankees have a team with great potential, more than last year, if you don't see that then you're way too neative...

If everything was certain, they wouldn't play 162 games and the playoffs...they would just give the best team on paper a trophy....

Go Yankees.

Well,
I just think it's a waste of time to discuss all their positive potential without pausing to consider the negative potential.  Sure, anyone can get hurt or disappear, but when you have a team full of guys with warning signs cropping up, it's silly to just talk about all that great potential.

As for the straw man of certainty you knocked over, I wasn't asking for certain results.  I'm just pointing out that you seemed awfully sure that all these big names the Yankees keep collecting will be everything you dreamed they would.  Just as I don't get cocky about Curt Schilling's ankle, I don't see how Yankee fans can be so sure about Jason Giambi after all he's been through.

Go Back to Boston
Okay, lets sit around and talk about everything that could go wrong.....oh, I'm sorry thats how Red Sox fans talk about the Yankees.  I'm a Yankee fan, this team has potential....nothing's garanteed.

Thats all you can do is to discuss potential in preseason.

Want to discuss how much worse the Red Sox are this year?  They certainly won't be better.

Go Yankees.

don't you know
He's trying to discuss "big issues between the teams"???

Easy on the bile, everybody
There's not a lot to talk about right now, and we're all antsy for the season to start.  Fuego and Friends can come back for discussions once we start playing games.  It'd be fun to watch a game "together".
