I am more confused than ever...

To win in the post season, do you really need good pitchers? Or do you just need your shitty pitchers to pitch well?

Star-divide

I am watching Kenny Rogers mow down the A's after he mowed down the Yankees. Yesterday, despite losing, Jeff Weaver pitched better than any of the Yankee starters did. I get the feeling, though, that if the Yankees had Rogers and Weaver on the staff they'd still be on vacation. The Yankees have an abundance of old and lousy starters. The problem is that they pitch like shit in the post season. The Yankees need to find a way to make their shitty pitchers pitch well like the Tigers, Mets and Cardinals have.

What you're seeing
is the randomness of the playoffs. In 2002 the Angels didn't have the best offense, but they all got hot and hit their way to the title. The 2003 Marlins were 8th in the NL in runs and 7th in runs allowed, but their guys pitched well and they won.

This is why i think all the talk about what's wrong with this team is crap. Yes, they could use better pitching, but it wasn't lack of chemistry or having a lineup of all-stars that made the Yankees lose. They just didn't play well. That happens in a short series. You just have to put together the best team you can and hope they play well in the postseason.

Nobody talks about what's wrong with a team if they lose 3 out of 4 to a worse team in the regular season. We all like to think that the playoffs are different, that everyone plays to their true talent and the best team wins. But that's not how it goes. Learning to accept that makes the regular season more enjoyable and a playoff loss slightly less depressing

I watched that game...
and thought who the hell are these people?  (the Tigers).  I know I saw them in the series against the Yankees but they seemed like some team from outer space...NOTHING like the team of the regular season EVEN when they were red hot.  It's like they have some mojo working.

Something more than mojo
Even the papers (NYTimes, I think) noted that Rogers was throwing in the mid 90s against the Yankees: faster than he has thrown in years.  Now the Yanks still looked terrible against him, but I wonder if Kenny wasn't running on an extra shot of something more than adrenaline.
Have faith in the Yankees my son. Think of the great DiMaggio.

A yankee fan...

Hahah,
I have to admit, this comment is funny.

Well.
And honestly, jscape may not be off-base.  Rogers was reportedly a stand-up guy everywhere he went until the camera incident, but who knows?  I personally think he's just amped up and out to prove all his nay-sayers wrong.  I'll consider myself proven wrong after his last two starts.
