Backup Catcher Signed

Kelly Stinnet who was backup catcher on the Diamondbacks with Randy Johnson in 1999-2000 was signed for $650k for one year.

Will he catch Randy?  Who knows....I hope the Yanks don't sit Posada that certain number of times just so they don't have to pay him more (some bonus in his contract for this year)...that would be really cheesey and cheap...something the Red Sox or Marlins would do.

Actually
If Posada catches 81 games this year it triggers a $12 million dollar option for next year.  Otherwise he's a free agent.  Unless Jorge gets hurt (has he ever been on the DL?) or they pitch Randy every other day, he'll get his year and his money.
Have faith in the Yankees my son. Think of the great DiMaggio.

The DL
I think Jorge was on the DL last season when he broke his nose.

Actually
Last I heard the Yankees were contemplating starting Posada at first for a few games to get out of that option.

not a classy move
thats a pretty cheesy way of weaseling out of his contract option.  I'm sure Jorge would just love that kind of treatment.  Even if he is getting older, etc. it's not a classy way of ending his career with the Yanks.
Go Yankees.

Jorge's the man
Jorge's the man in the Bronx. Even though he absolutely killed me in my fantasy league last year, he was hurt, and never fully recovered from the busted nose.

He needs to rest more, and maybe dh abit, too. Stinnett is decent--I believe an upgrade over Flaherty if he moves on.

Hmmm. What would have been nice is if this season the Yankees began working in the next in a long distinguished line of quality backstops that includes: Dickey, Berra, Howard, Munson, Gibbs (okay maybe not him), Posada and Navarro. I like the ring of that ...

Too bad we shipped the 20 year-old backstop off to the Dodgers to land that 40+ year-old pitcher what's-his-name? Now instead of adding to Yankee catching lore he'll become one in a long line of Dodger catching greats that includes Campanella, Piazza, LoDuca ...

Well, at least I'm not bitter.
